School roofing projects operate under constraints that don't exist on standard commercial jobs. The most obvious: you can only work when students aren't there. That means summer break, winter break, and spring break are your windows. Miss the deadline, and you have an unfinished roof when 800+ students show up on the first day of school.
Safety requirements go beyond standard OSHA compliance. Every crew member working on a school campus must pass Level 2 background screening— the same FBI fingerprint check required of school employees. Noise restrictions during any school hours are strict. Debris containment is critical because children may be on adjacent playgrounds or walkways.
And schools aren't single buildings. A typical campus has 4-8 structures: classrooms, administration, cafeteria, gymnasium, media center, and portables. Each may have a different roof system, different age, and different condition. A phased, building-by-building approach is essential.
